Description

'Boris has more fun on two wheels than should be legally possible.' - Richard Fidler, ABC His mother may not know it but Boris Mihailovic has lived a fast, furious, often politicially incorrect life chasing the epiphanies of speed (the sensation not the drug). For Boris, motorbike riding was the rite of passage into manhood he'd been searching for. Now, nearly 40 years since he first rode a bike, the wisdom of age has provided the perspective for Boris to look back and realise some pretty wild shit went down. AT THE ALTAR OF THE ROAD GODS is about popping your motorcycle-buying cherry with an XJ650 Yamaha. It's about fines, feuds and fractures, high-sides, tank-slappers, angry police, even angrier young men, crashing, getting up, cranky girlfriends, riding faster, outlaws, and partaking in copious amounts of alcohol and drugs. It is about mateship and motorcycles. Ultimately, is is about four decades of two-wheel-related mayhem. Just don't tell Boris's mum! Be warned: may cause laughter, sleeplessness and the desire to buy a Lucifer-black Katana.

Reviews

Boris has more fun on two wheels than should be legally possible. - Richard Fidler, ABC a pulse-pounding, white-knuckle ride - PEOPLE laugh-out-loud funny ... compelling - TradeMotorcycles.com.au will delight the motorbike-mad dad - TAKE 5 Mihailovic uses humour like most people would use their fists. - COURIER-MAIL on MY MOTHER WARNED ME ABOUT BLOKES LIKE ME There is no requirement to love everything on two wheels to enjoy this book but it would seriously help, as our resident bike nut said about Boris: "This guy lives and breathes motorbikes. He's the epitome of two wheel freedom. - MINING CHRONICLE On MY MOTHER WARNED ME ABOUT BLOKES LIKE ME It's a sad disconnect that exists in our largely ordered and overregulated society: that those who choose to live a colourful life of lawlessness, decadence, indulgence and abandon often lack the requisite skill to write about how damn fun it is. Mihailovic with his debut memoir, suffers no such problem. His love of motorcycling, mateship and frequent, subsequent mayhem is matched by a natural writing ability that graphically, often hilariously, brings to life the two-wheeled experiences that have shaped his life... Highly recommended. - 4 x 4 MAGAZINE on MY MOTHER WARNED ME ABOUT BLOKES LIKE ME
